Engagement Story-Part1

So I originally wrote this post for my other non-wedding blog-weird yes because it is actually about the wedding in a way. I got onto a rant about Kim K and it lead into this...

Is anyone else a little disturbed by the news and size of Kim K's ring?

Unreal.

I mean, don't get me wrong-I love Kim K. But seriously, reaaallly?

#1-When it's that big does it even look real???

#2-I don't know about any other girls out there but sometimes my ring gets in the way. I can't fish anything out of my pockets-I bang it on the desk-the door way-it just gets in the way sometimes.

As I was driving into work this morning all the talk radios were buzzing about this ring and the engagement and the "biggest Hollywood wedding" she's planning. Two of the dj's got into a conversation about rings and men picking them out and girls not liking them.

How rude.

If your man proposes to you and you don't like the ring...and you say you don't like it...find a new man. Because obviously you don't love the current guy proposing to you. It's not about the ring. If you think otherwise you aren't ready to get married.

Then they brought into the conversation girls who pick out their rings...again...if you have to pick out your ring...I feel like that's a little...selfish...in a way. When someone says "I picked out my ring" or "she picked out her ring" I automatically think about a girl saying "I want this and that with this size diamond" in a snotty, stuck up, high pitched voice. (Not all girls are like this! I know!!-but there are girls out there like that-just sayin)

With my own thought, I made myself cringe.

I picked out my ring.

Kind of-

I didn't know I was picking it out-

But I did.

sigh

Before all you other judgers out there like myself start judging, please know that probably a year before my love proposed I had a twisty-tie on my finger from a bread loaf. mmhmm. He's a romantic....In fact I went through two twisty-ties. The first one was the paper kind-and after wearing that for a week the paper wore down to the wire and it was poking me. So, what does lover do? Finds one of the plastic ones! Smart boy. But I wore it. And I loved it. And if I had to wear a twisty-tie the rest of my life-I would've. It's the thought that counts.

This brought on the topic of "IF I were to by to buy you a ring, what would you want?" conversation. I of course followed with my usual response to every other thing in life-"I don't care." So, one day while we were out shopping around, we drove past a jewelry shop. I was jokingly asked if I wanted to go in. I jokingly said sure back-thinking we'd continue on driving. Somehow we ended up actually going in and looking around to "get an idea for what you like." I had originally walked into that store thinking I wanted a plain band with a single diamond on it.

Hm. Throw a couple hundred different rings in front of one girl-see what happens. It'll entertain you I'm sure.

We slowly made our way around the room looking at the various styles. I had come across one or two that I liked-including one that looked just like a twisty-tie :). It wasn't until we were almost completely around the room that I was shown a ring that completely caught my eye. It was unique. I loved it. Tony quickly asked-"If I come in-say six months from now-and that ring isn't here, how do I get it?" the response wasn't what I wanted to hear. "If it's gone, it's gone."-I mean great! that means not every one and their sister will have that ring, but at that moment-I wanted to be gone. I was done looking because I didn't want to fall in love with a ring I wouldn't be able to have. And those were my exact words as we walked out the store a few minutes later. Along with "I don't want to do that again."

Little did I know...

Wedding Meltdown #519

Saturday as I was sitting with my sister Amber and personal attendant Brittni I received a lovely email saying "8 more months!"

Just what I wanted to hear.

As the day went on I filed it away and tried not to think about it. Tony and I went on with our errands-burying ourselves into grocery shopping and getting little things for the house, dog, fish, yard etc. As all those "little" things added up, along with the constant reminder that my car is broken down, photographer mess and the haunting guest list-I started to have a mini panic attack on the drive home thinking about all of this. Tony immediately went into his motivational-we'll get it all figured out-we have plenty of time-you need to get excited-stop worrying-I'll take care of it-it'll all work out speech. This is why I love him.

During his little speech he mentioned that maybe if we did something fun like registering that it would get me excited. So, immediately after I calmed myself down I asked if we could go to Target and register. So, at 8:30pm we walked into Target ready for to register. Tony took the scanner first. I think he was more excited than I was. We only had an hour and a half before the store closed so it was a little rushed but we got through.

However.

When I got home, I wanted to take a look at our list to see what we added.

Problem #1-I could not log in to edit our list. At all. I could change my password. But I could not log in.

Problem #2-When I search for our registry, I am able to see it. Great. But it only lists probably half of the items we scanned. Awesome.

That excited bubble just popped.

Sunday I woke up ready to face the guest list head on. I headed over to the in-laws so my future mother-in-law could help me. I wasn't about to do this alone. She helped out a ton and kept me focused. After a few hours of sorting through the "guest list", "new guest list", "updated guest list" spreadsheets and figuring out what names we had and needed to add we finally had a grand total.

Are you ready for this?

...

...

...

Total Wedding Guests (Wedding/Dinner)=232
Total Guests (Wedding + Reception) = 434
*give or take a few

I think I can finally breathe now.

Maybe now I can tackle this silly registry issue. Or possibly the photographer. One step at a time.

Friendly Reminders

I received yet another friendly email today regarding the wedding blog.

Fiiiiiine.

I think I've realized that I am really just trying to avoid all wedding stuff. I'm burnt out. I want a break.

And I don't really have a whole lot going on or that I NEED to work on. I just am not wanting to work on it.

Why?

Because I am throwing a pitty party for myself because I can't have the photographer I want.

Why?

Because I have expensive taste.

Why?

Because I am picky.

Ugh.

So I'm supposed to be finding a photographer. But I don't want to. I think I'm secretly hoping that this one photographer will magically lower their prices one of these days.

Again, a girl can dream.

I'd also like for our honeymoon to magically be decided. Do you know how many options one has for a honeymoon??

We received probably six different "pamphlets" from our travel agent. Inside these "pamphlets" are probably sixty pages with eight different resorts per page.

Awesome.

Soooo, because I'm throwing a tantrum I've started another blog. Non-wedding related. So. If you'd like to follow along on that one you can find it here. I'll continue to update the wedding blog as I work on wedding things. But sometimes a girl just needs a break from wedding stuff. Seriously. I don't even like typing that word right now.

Can someone point me in the direction of the courthouse??

Happy Birthday!!

My baby turns 2 today!!!!!

Oh my goodness!!!! Hard to believe the little rascal is 2 already. I will admit most boxers are complete puppies until they are 3, we were extremely lucky to have such a laid back dog. When we first brought him home I think both Tony and I were preparing for a long couple years of a misbehaving dog. We couldn't have been more wrong.

Knock on wood.

Here's a few pictures of my baby growing up...

On the car ride home!!!

Axel on his first birthday!!

Arizona Wedding Pictures

This post is way over due. A month ago I flew to Arizona to photograph a friends wedding. Here are some of the photos from that weekend.

Here are some fun ones from the weekend :)

Shake It Like A Polaroid Picture

Sh-sh-shake it!

If you don't know what I'm referring to, it's a sad day...fast forward to marker 3:50 and try not to shake it.

I've been told by my fiance that I need to add more pictures. Apparently just words are boring.

So I'm going to post a couple pictures that I've been meaning to post for some time now. Enjoy my loves!

This would be my necklace I got from my Grandma Iris when I was 16. This was the number one thing I kept in mind when looking for a dress. My dress had to go with my necklace, no matter what.

For my birthday and wedding gift from my mom and dad I got a bracelet and a pair of earrings to match my necklace. Two things that I will cherish forever right along side my necklace.

Tony's wedding band...still weird...

This is the beginning of the "mess" at our house. I brought all the flowers home from mom and dads this past weekend. I shouldn't say all. We still have the two largest flower arrangements, my bouquet and a few other bouquets that aren't completely finished yet at their house. As of right now until I move some things around everything is sitting on the kitchen table. I'm debating on if I should overtake Marilyn's room even more or putting them all in the basement. I'm not a fan of having it all on the top level and constantly having that door shut so I'd rather have them downstairs. I just worry that if they are down there they will get all dusty. We may have to move them to the in-laws house in River Falls. We'll see.
